Clothing God's Children began in 2008. God placed a burning desire in the heart of it's founder, Silvio Castillo, while on a mission trip in January 2008 to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala with his daughter Jouleen Castillo. The team they traveled with was a construction company from Athens, Tx whose goals were to build a play ground for the government orphanage in the city as well as lead a vacation Bible school program for the nearly 100 children there. Knowing the many needs in the country before hand, Silvio took a suitcase of his own clothing he wanted to give to some of the people there. While he was there Silvio noticed that one 12 year old girl at the home named Lesbia, had holes cut out in the front of her tennie shoes so they would fit her. Immediately seeing her, broke his heart. Silvio is a father of three girls, such a small need that he would never even think twice about providing for his daughters. In that moment, he asked his daughter Jouleen, who was leading the team, if is was okay for him to buy shoes for her while he was there. She agreed and that afternoon they went to the store and bought a new pair of shoes just for her. He felt so blessed by doing this, it stirred a desire in his heart to serve orphans in the same way.
This is where it all began
Many questions ran through his heart and mind as to how he could supply these children with the basic and simple need of clothes. The compassion and mercy he had for these children kept him thinking and praying as to how God could use him to help them get the basic clothing they needed. God put it on his heart to start collecting clothes for the children and taking them to them. He began collecting clothes, shoes, coats, underwear, socks and other articles from friends, family and Bible study members and delivering them to the children at different orphanages around Latin America since Jan 2008. He has been to the Dominican Republic, Quetzaltenango, Antigua, and Guatemala City in Guatemala, Tegucigalpa, La Ceiba, San Pedro Sula and Roatan in Honduras, Matamoros and Cozumel in Mexico, and other places where he has heard that have great needs. Silvio wanted to continue to do much more and he hoped others would be willing to join him so he founded Clothing God's Children a non-profit organization, so that there would be no limits to what God can do. All glory goes to God for the work He is doing now and will do in the future through this ministry. We hope and pray that you will join us on this journey God has called us to.
